Report from the Tea Parties

Tea Party Week was quite eventful throughout the nation. Hundreds of rallies were held on Wednesday, to the general dislike of the media and liberal politicians. Many more were held on Saturday, mainly because most actual TAXPAYERS had to WORK on Wednesday, something that never seems to affect liberal protests. This is The Crawfish’s report on the Philadelphia protest from Wednesday and the Bucks County (PA) rally on Saturday.

Tax Day was quite gloomy in Philly. The weather started out cold (low 40s) and windy, with an occasional bit of light rain. As Diana and Andrew were starting to set things up, those of us who volunteered to help arrived. The local FOX and ABC affiliates were already there, ready to go. The FOX reporter interviewed Diana and Andrew, then noticed the volunteers, some of us with our signs, and talked to us as well, which is how The Crawfish ended up on camera.

Who's this guy?

By noon, the crowd had swelled to a few hundred and the event kicked off. We had a nice rendition of the National Anthem, and an enthusiastic stating of our Pledge of Allegiance. Our first speaker was 16-year old Jesse Civello, of the Constitutional Scholars’ Organization. Parts of his speech even showed up on video at hotair.com. Jesse definitely got the crowd going, and it was only because of that energy that the folks kept going, for it was as he spoke that the rain really started taking over the afternoon.

Our other speakers during the day were financial professional Paul Karcher, anesthesiologist Dr. James Allen, and network engineer Adam Lang. I know, the readers are asking “who are those guys?” and that was part of the problem that the organizers faced. How do you find a pro-taxpayer speaker for a mid-day rally in Philly? The only local radio personalities who would work were not available, as Michael Smerconish does some mid-day work in addition to his travels between Philly and Noo Yawk, and Dom Girdano was scheduled for the Saturday Philly event. None of the local and state politicians would work for this crowd, since they are mostly big government, big taxes, big union types, or they had some kind of connection with former Mayor John Street, who was quite corrupt and was only elected because of his party designation and his history as a race agitator (think of a less sophisticated, more thuggish Al Sharpton without the “Rev” designation).

Dr. Lang was definitely fired up, and his main target was the Federal Reserve, which has wrecked our currency value. He spoke many times of HR 1207, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009 which would change the way the Fed does business and would cause the Fed to be AUDITED FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME EVER! The bill’s sponsor is Dr. Ron Paul, who may be out to lunch on foreign policy but is outstanding on domestic policy, monetary policy, and Constitutionality.

Once Saturday rolled around, the weather had definitely changed for the better, with plenty of sunshine and temps in the 70s.  The Bucks County Tea Party (www.tea4change.com) was held at Washington's Crossing Park, where General George crossed the Delaware River to attack the Hessians in Trenton, NJ, in December of 1776.  The organizers called themselves the Kitchen Table Patriots, and were in fact two local housewives (Anastasia and Marianne), one of whom was a 1st generation American.  They did a WONDERFUL job!  The emcee for the event was WPHT talk show host Gary R'Nel.  Throughout the event, the crowd was reminded that this was not a partisan event, as we want people from both parties to work together to do what WE THE PEOPLE want.  With an impressive lineup of speakers, good weather, and the Saturday date, the crowd was much bigger than it was for the Wednesday Philly event.

Yes, the veterans of Gathering Of Eagles III again joined their Daddy.

The first speaker was PA State Representative Scott Petri who got the crowd going.  He was followed by Kelly Unger, who recited The American's Creed and the famous "Give me liberty, or give me death!" speech by Patrick Henry.

The next speaker was Mr. Dan Warden, a Navy veteran of Vietnam and a former executive in the pharmaceutical industry.  After him came Ilka Werner, whose mother escaped Nazi Germany just before WW2.  Then came US Army Reserve Captain Jeff McGeerey, representing The Thomas Jefferson Club of Newtown, PA, who gave a dynamite speech.  I would not be surprised to see him running for Congress in the not-too-distant future.

PA State Senator Chuck McIlhinny was next up, and he continued the theme of many of the local politicians who have fought increased taxation and spending for the past few years, and told the crowd why so many of the federal bailout programs are so dangerous, in that they get stuff started, but quit paying for them in 2 years.

The next speaker got a standing ovation before she spoke a single word.  Ryan Manion is the sister of Marine 1st Lieutenant Travis Manion, who was Killed In Action in Iraq in 2007, and daughter of retired Colonel Tom Manion who unsuccessfully ran for Congress last year against Patrick Murphy (whose name was booed many times).  After Ryan came a high school senior, CJ Davies, whose mother was one of the event organizers.  This summer, CJ will enter the United States Naval Academy.

State Representative Marguerite Quinn took the stage next, and echoed many of the things Rep. Petri and Sen. McIlhinny had to say.  Then came local housewife and self-declared concerned citizen Brenda BoussardBucks County Commissioner James F. Cawley, Esq. let the crowd know that their desires were definitely being heard by the county government leaders, and that they were holding the line on taxes, as they had been doing for the past few years.  Air Force veteran and local small business owner Rob Mitchell also gave the crowd some inspiration.

Local insurance agency owner Brad Child told the people how health care costs and federal government involvement caused insurance prices to skyrocket.  He also let us know that one of the worst aspects of socialized medicine, the rationing of health care based on cost-effectiveness, has been signed into federal law by President Obama, as it was part of the TARP legislation.

One of the high points of the day was the speech by Anna PuigAnna was born in Brazil, and has witnessed South American countries falling for slick-talking politicians with their promises, aided by election fraud (she mentioned ACORN a number of times).  These politicians have then turned the national governments into marxist or socialist ones, which have caused the nations to become poor shells of their former selves.  She is a naturalized US citizen and will not let that happen to her new country "without a FIGHT!"

Tom Lingenfelter came up next.  He has run for office as an Independent, a Democrat, and a Republican.  He urged the people to get involved in the political parties.  The only way to get good candidates is to take over the parties from within, since the parties will only allow establishment candidates to really have any chance of getting elected.

The final speaker was Doreen Linder of the Burbs Girl blog .  By the time she hit the stage, the crowd was getting pretty thin, as the event had gone on longer than planned, and the families with kids were facing the revolt of the hungry children, but those who stayed were NOT disappointed by her words.

There was some musical entertainment during the event, but The Crawfish didn't write down the names when they were mentioned, so I apologize to them.

If y’all come across any weird/stoooopid/strange news stories that might be fodder for The Weekly Claw, e-mail them to me at at1aw_usn@yahoo.com and I’ll consider ‘em. Yes, I will give you newshounds credit.
