173 Years Ago, March 6, 1836

On this date in 1836, the gallant Texian defenders of The Alamo were overwhelmed and slaughtered by the Mexican Army under Generalissimo Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna.  The defenders were led by Colonel William B. Travis, Colonel James Bowie, and US Congressman David Crockett of Tennessee.  Those who survived the battle were executed with sword and bayonet.

A month and a half later, on April 21st, Texian forces under General Sam Houston caught the Mexican Army encamped along the bayou at San Jacinto.  The cannons known as the Twin Sisters spoke, and the Texians routed the Mexicans with the battle cries of:

"Remember Goliad!"

"REMEMBER THE ALAMO!"

Rest in Peace, brave heroes of Texas!
